What exactly is a travelpreneur?
First off I am hearing this term more and more lately, so I thought I would share the definition a travelpreneur and whether it is realistically achievable.
A travelpreneur is someone that owns a profitable business that is NOT restricted to a certain location. This means whether they work from their home town, Bali, Thailand, Hawaii or any other exotic location, their business operates under the same principles.
It sounds simple... too good to be true? Well it is simple and it is true, but your business model must have a few important traits to make it a reality.
Here are a few of the key ingredients to making your dreams of being a travelpreneur are;
1.) How reliant are you on selling a product or service face to face? Can you sell via the phone or using video chat?
2.) Does your business run off of a recurring income (subscription) model? This is key, because if you are slow one month in sales, you do not want to be stuck in a foreign country with no income.
3.) Does your business run off of just your efforts or does it run off of a team where you all work together and you can also make income from their efforts? This is also another very important key factor in being a travelpreneur, you can spend more time enjoying your travels and less time working if you can master this skill into your business.
4.) How much does your business need to earn before you can make the leap?
Number 4 is the scariest of them all and it's the #1 reason people never make their dreams of being a travelpreneur a reality.
Put it this way.
First step is you need to figure out what it will cost you to in your desired location each week or each month, depending on how long you plan to stay in one location. This includes rent, food, bills, utilities, internet and cellphone, flights, eating out and fun, car rental or other travel expenses.
Let's say that you discovered from your research that you will need about $300 a week for your living expenses. The usually say that 21 is the magic number to form a habit. With that said this means for the next 21 weeks you will need to earn and save $300 a week (or however much you need for your budget). And if you miss a week you have to start all over.
Once you can master earning and saving your required budget amount for 21 weeks straight in a row you have now successfully developed a expense habit and you are one step closer to becoming a travelpreneur and setting yourself up in a new location somewhere in the world (flights, rent, food, etc.) and each week use the money are now a master at saving to cover your new expenses.
Still sound too easy to be true? I'm sure you are asking there must be a catch! If it were that easy everyone would be doing it right? RIGHT!
There is a catch...
The hardest part of this is actually finding the right vehicle, the right opportunity that will allow you the opportunity to make your dreams of becoming a travelpreneur a reality. This is why most jobs do not allow this freedom. Its usually the case of... you don't turn up at the office, you generally don't get paid!
